Manly Courtyard House: environa studio
http://www.architecture01.com/environa/manly.htm
The house is part of a continuing exploration of courtyard housing by Environa Studio to provide both high environmental performance and good internal amenity and privacy on very small land areas. In order in order to maximise northern sun and light from the side boundary the new house has a courtyard form which differs markedly form the other 'box' style houses in the street. Awarded Gold Medal.

Glenayr Terraces: environa studio
http://www.architecture01.com/environa/glenayr.htm

Unlike the apartment buildings on either side the concept here is for 6 "terrace" houses, each designed as an individual house with its own address, access from underground car parking and with each house having access to ground and to a roof garden. Awarded Gold Medal.

Clovelly House: Kennedy Associates
http://www.architecture01.com/kennedy/clovelly.htm
The house, which has been designed to meet the very specific spatial and accessibility needs of the client, incorporates a range of innovations beyond the normal approaches of passive solar and environmental design - solar hot water, full insulation of internal and external walls and ceilings, solar pool heating, northern sun to living areas, shading from western sun, zoning, and appropriate landscaping. Awarded Gold Medal.

Tullerooke House: Mahalath Halperin Architects
http://www.architecture01.com/halperin/tullerooke.htm
The brief included: increase footprint and the accommodation (including extending living area, addition of music room, guest room, and parents' wing); update the existing bathroom & add another; maximise views, from north all the way around to south-east; increase ceiling height, or at least perception thereof; terracing of landscape and removal of ring road; and make the building function more efficiently with the incorporation of solar passive design features as well as active systems. Awarded Silver Medal.

Dual Occupancy, Bronte: John Hamilton Doyle
http://www.architecture01.com/doyle/bronte.htm
The client brief centred on their intention to save the interesting existing house from demolition and replacement by a Mc mansion.
We also desired, as set out in DCP20 [cl.4.2-c] and d]] that the scheme be energy aware. Already we have saved the embodied energy in the existing house. But there are solar cells on the garage roof for an active system, and 90% of the roof water runoff is saved in a 30,000 l. under floor tank which will be used in the house and garden.

Mondrian Apartments: Stanisic Associates

http://www.architecture01.com/stanisic/mondrian.htm

Mondrian is an eco-responsive, living environment in Green Square, South Sydney. It is an innovative project that sets high standards for sustainable design, a climatically responsive modern box, green as well as white – an example of ‘eco-minimalism’. Awarded Gold Medal.

Frenchmans Rd Apartments: Brenchley Architects
http://www.architecture01.com/brenchley/frenchmans.htm
The brief from the owners of the subject site was to create a building that would attract people to the site to see first hand a development that would surpass Council's environmental objectives and become one of the leading examples of sustainable urban living in Australia.
62 Frenchman's Road utilises 'green' technologies that will reduce water, energy and material consumption. Awarded Gold Medal.

Spectrum Apartments: Stanisic Associates
http://www.architecture01.com/stanisic/spectrum.htm
The building concept and detailed design is focused on demand minimisation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by the development and the
dependency on water resources. Features incorporated include: Operable sun control and shading devices, natural ventilation, natural gas hot water, low energy lighting, and more. Awarded Silver Medal.

Adaptive Reuse of a Warehouse: Form Architects
http://www.architecture01.com/form/daphne.htm

This site is a group of 3 small factory unit/warehouses in an area of Botany that has been regarded 'Residential'. The approach adopted was to contain the dwelling within the existing envelope and to maximize external walls by creating 2 'courtyards' in diagonally opposite corners of each unit. The existing warehouse wall then becomes a screen rather than an enclosure. The main resource savings is the adaptive reuse of a redundant building. Awarded Silver Medal.

Wayside Chapel, Potts Point: environa studio
http://www.architecture01.com/environa/wayside.htm
The core buildings are retained and two currently dilapidated buildings are demolished and rebuilt at an increased size. ESD best practice will be achieved through: the adoption of passive principles, as well as active systems to improve internal amenity, comfort levels, and reduce energy consumption.
Awarded Gold Medal.

Birabahn, University of Newcastle, NSW
http://www.architecture01.com/stutchbury/newcastle.htm
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) Centre 2002. Houses Indigenous studies, teaching and research, as well as the Indigenous Support Unit for the School of Medicine. It is the most advanced in ESD terms on the campus to date. Architects: Richard Lepastrier, Peter Stutchbury, Sue Harper. Awarded Gold Medal.

NSW Police Headquarters: Bates Smart
http://www.architecture01.com/batessmart/police.htm

The NSW Police Headquarters in Parramatta creates a humane low energy office environment with timeless modern architecture. The challenge was to design a SEDA 4 ½ star office building with 93% efficiency on the budget of a suburban office, and with the dignity of a state headquarters and the humanity of a new office environment. Awarded Silver Medal.
